Its Time to Leave the Nest

It happened slowly. At first it was a slight discomfort. Then it was a dread. Then it was frustration and anger. Finally it was resolution.

What am I referring to? Moving on and leaving the nest. Whatever your nest, your comfort zone, there comes a time when it is not enough and when you are not doing what you were created to do and that realization weighs heavily on your spirit.

I was feeling like an egret, the young of an eagle. When an eagle wants its young to leave the comfortable nest and fend for themselves, it makes life uncomfortable for the young. The eagle will at times starve its young by not supplying food for days. It then stirs up the cushy nest and exposes the thorns and sticks until the egret is so uncomfortable it has no choice but to leave.

The eagle is not cruel though, it prods the egret to move on, to fly away. Unfortunately for the egret, the methods become harsher, the greater resistance. And yet, the eagle remains, hovers over its young. When its time, the eagle flies with the young on its back before dropping it in the open sky, forcing the egret to fly on its own. The eagle is always near and rescues the egret when it falls, unable to fly, but the lesson is repeated until the egret learns to use what it didn’t know it had, its wings. It learns to fly away and soar.

When our spirit is stirred, the  once comfortable situation become unbearable, we have no choice but to obey God's leading and voice, we move on to the destiny he has for us. When we resist, things become harder. As in the Israelites in Egypt, the work was increased until they cried to the Lord for an escape. Egypt became the dreaded land.

So it is with us, when we don’t make the decision at the time we should, events overtake us. In a job situation, our boss and colleagues may become harsher, the workload overwhelming and the stress higher. Eventually we either leave the nest or we are pushed out but either way, we leave because we are not where we should be.

Take this advice as you will. When God stirs something in you, do not ignore it. Listen, ask for clarification. Do what He says you should do. We are all here to fulfill destiny. Just because it is comfortable, it does not mean it is where we should be. Even when we fear, remember this:

Deut 32:11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings.

When we step outside of our comfort zone, God is there to carry us and guide us.

Examine your life. Are you where you should be?
